CHAIN LINK FENCING

Chain link fences provide affordable security and containment in a variety of residential and commercial applications. They require little maintenance and are very adaptable to just about any need. A chain link fence is an easy project for the do-it-yourselfer. Bring in your measurements and let Sutherlands give you a free material estimate on a fence that suits you.

Count your ends and corners, and figure 2 per gate.

1-5/8" Line Posts

(Bury 2' in the ground)

Divide the total footage of your fence (less gate openings) by 10 and subtract one. Subtract one additional post for each corner post used. Space posts equally up to 10' apart.

Top Rail
(Swedged)

Available in 10.5' & 21' lengths.

Same Lineal footage as fence fabric.

Fence Fabric

Available in 42", 48", 60" and 72" high.

Call our store near you to find out which gauge is in stock.

Same lineal footage of fence. Sold in 50' rolls.
Top Rail Sleeve Not needed for swedged top rail, except for using extra lengths to avoid waste.

Tension Bar

Available in 41", 47"', 59", 71"

1 for each end post.
1 for each gate post.
2 for each corner post.

Terminal Post Caps

Available as 0-way, 1-way, 2-way and Dome (not shown)

Use 1 for each terminal post

For corners that are not a perfect corner, use a 0-way cap with rail ends and brace bands.

Rail ends

1 for each end post.
1 for each gate post.
2 for each corner post.

(Not necessary when using 1-way or 2-way bullet caps).

Brace Bands One for each rail end.
Loop Cap One for each line post.
Tension Band

Use one for each End or Gate post.

42" or 48" Fence: Use 3

Double the qty. for corner posts.

Gate Hinge

Male fits 2-1/2" terminal posts. Female fits 1-5/8" line posts.

2 for single walk gate
4 for double drive gate

Male J Lags and Bolts Use as needed instead of gate hinges when attaching gates to wood posts, homes, etc.
Fork Latch One per walk gate
Butterfly Latch As needed instead of Fork latch. Use with a spring for self-closing gates.
Walk Gate Hardware Includes all hardware necessary for one Walk Gate.
Double Drive Gate Hardware Includes all hardware necessary for one Double Drive Gate.
Aluminum Fence Ties 1 for every 24" of top rail and 1 for every 12" of line posts.
Barb Wire Arms Use as needed. One per post.
Bolts Purchase for hardware that does not include the bolt (some bulk items).
Gate Corners As needed for building custom size gates. Four per gate.
Kennel Clamps Use for attaching pre-built kennel panels together.
Privacy Slats One bundle usually covers 10 lineal feet of fencing.

Walk Gates
36" and 48" wide.

Drive Gates:
For 10' and 12' wide Openings. (Panels 5' and 6' wide).

All Gates:

Tools you will find useful when installing Chain Link fencing.

  • String or chalk line and stakes.
  • Tape measure.
  • Post hold digger.
  • Wheelbarrow, shovel, hoe to mix and transport concrete.
  • Carpenter's level.
  • 1/2" and 9/16" wrench or crescent wrench.
  • Hacksaw or pipe cutter.
  • Fence stretcher (or a Come-a-long).
  • Pliers

Other Important Things to Consider:

  • Make sure your fence footings do not exceed legally established property lines! If uncertain, refer to a real estate agent's line plot or consult a professional surveyor.
  • Check local codes for specifications regarding height, frontage locations, etc. A permit may be required.
  • Contact local utilities to mark underground utilities. IT'S THE LAW!
